The Council has purchased new gateways to replace the existing 30mph signs on the A134 at both
entrances to Alpheton Village. The hope is that these gateways will reinforce the speed limit and
encourage motorists to honour the limit and hence go some way to addressing the perennial
problem of speeding along this section of the road.
Funding for the purchase and installation has come from the CIL (Community Infrastructure Levy),
monies generated by the four new houses on Bury Road. The purchase/installation of the gateways
falls within the limited criteria for CIL expenditure – and from generous allocations from their
Locality Budgets by Cllrs Richard Kemp (Suffolk CC) and John Nunn (Babergh DC) – who are both
Parish Councillors - and from Cllr Liz Malvesi (Babergh DC) whose ward includes Alpheton.
ABC Ltd have been instructed to install the gateways and anticipate commencing work on 17th July.
Whilst they do not envisage that their work will impede traffic flow there may be the occasional
need for stop/go boards to be used.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause whilst the gateways are being installed.
